Throughout history Vakfıkebir in Trabzon has always been a natural harbour and a center to the surrrounding communities. Many historical texts mention of sailors seeking its safety against the uncanny waters of the Blacksea. The Project focuses on this partially forgotten identity of a commercial and cultural hub, and aims to replenish this identity to its former strength. The Project site is approximately 100m to the West of the city center, in a very promising location where the Project can enrich the social life in the center by what it will provide and it can also benefit from the possibilities which the city center would offer. Considering its central location, the Project combines social facilities, retail, recreational and residential spaces. Through the playful facade of the shopping mall beneath the residential towers, the robust volume of the shopping mall is intented to be concealed, which would also provide a sense of curiosity. The effect of the facade is not taken merely as spectacle but is intended to be a vital and integral element while shaping the spaces inside.
